Controller

The controller within the meaning of the GDPR is Thomas Friedel, contact details above.

What we process

• Text you submit for analysis, including any content you paste or any article fetched from a URL you enter.
• URLs you submit for article extraction.
• Technical request data automatically transmitted by your browser: IP address, User-Agent, timestamp, referrer. This is processed by our hosting and inference providers on our behalf.

No cookies are set and no user accounts exist. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and measure basic performance (see Recipients below); this is a cookieless, privacy-focused analytics tool that does not track individual users across sites.

Purpose and legal basis

We process the above data solely to run the analysis you requested and to operate and secure the service (e.g. abuse prevention, debugging). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the service you requested) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a functioning, non-abused service).

Retention

Submitted texts and URLs are processed in-memory for the duration of the request and are not persistently stored by us. Short-lived server logs (including IP addresses) may be retained by our providers for up to 30 days for security and debugging; they are not linked to other personal data and are deleted automatically.

Recipients and third-country transfers

To deliver the service, submitted data is transmitted to the following processors:

• Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) — hosting and edge delivery of this website via Cloudflare Pages, and the server-side proxy that forwards requests to the inference backend. Requests may be routed through EU edge nodes, but Cloudflare is a US company. We additionally use Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure aggregate page-view counts and basic performance metrics. Cloudflare Web Analytics is cookieless and does not use client-side storage or fingerprinting; it processes IP addresses transiently to detect unique visits and does not store them. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in understanding aggregate usage). Because no information is stored in or read from your device, §25 TTDSG consent is not required.
• Modal Labs, Inc. (USA) — runs the machine-learning inference. When you click Analyze, the text you submitted is transmitted to Modal servers in the United States, an inference result is returned, and the input is not persisted by us beyond the request.
• Bunny.net (Slovenia, EU) — delivers the web fonts used on this page. Your IP address is transmitted to Bunny's CDN to load the font files.

Transfers to the United States constitute a third-country transfer under Chapter V GDPR. They are made on the basis of the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, and are limited to what is technically necessary to run the service you requested (Art. 49(1)(b) GDPR as an additional basis).

If you do not wish your text to be sent to a US-based inference provider, please do not submit it.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and objection (Art. 21). Since we do not persistently store submissions, most of these rights apply primarily to any incidental log data. To exercise them, contact us at the email above.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The competent authority for the controller is the Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit (datenschutz-berlin.de).
